Box Score EWING, N.J. – The Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team was defeated 3-0 by #2 The College of New Jersey Saturday afternoon in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Hawks fell behind early and were unable to dig themselves out of the hole. Taylor Nolan struck first for the Lions in the fourth minute. She got a fortunate bounce off of a deflection, controlling the ball in the middle of the box and putting one in net for a 1-0 lead.
Then in the 18
th and 20
th minutes, Christine Levering scored back-to-back goals for TCNJ to extend the lead to three. Jen McGrogan found Levering with a long through ball from the left side for the first score, while Elizabeth Thoresen set up Levering with a close pass off the right side.
The Hawks struggled offensively in the opening half, as they were outshot 15-0 in the opening period. Roger Williams would hold TCNJ off the board in the second half and logged three shots of their own in the frame. However, it would not be enough as the Lions advanced to the second round.
Nicole DiPasquale improved to 19-0-0 for the Lions, making only one save on the day.
Natalie O'Donovan (Quincy, Mass.) set a new career high with 14 saves for Roger Williams.
TCNJ will host Virginia Wesleyan in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament, while Roger Williams ends the season at 14-8-2.
