SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Men's Tennis team has earned the #4 seed for the upcoming Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament, beginning this weekend.
Eastern Nazarene knocked off the two other teams competing for the top spot in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) in its final two matches of the regular season to enter this year's CCC Men's Tennis Championship Tournament as the No. 1 seed.
The Lions finished the CCC season with a 7-1 conference (15-3 Overall) record including the only loss served up to five-time defending CCC Tournament Champion, Nichols. The Lions will be in search of their first-ever CCC Men's Tennis title.
The Bison earned a share of the Regular-Season Championship as they also finished 7-1 in conference (16-3 Overall). Nichols will be the No. 2 seed in the tournament based on the league's tiebreaking procedure, the first of which is head-to-head results.
As the top two seeds, both Eastern Nazarene and Nichols will be advanced into the semifinal round of the tournament. They will wait on the results of the quarterfinal matchups, which are scheduled for Saturday, April 29.
The first quarterfinal features No. 3 seed Gordon hosting No. 6 seed Western New England at 1 p.m. Gordon finished the year with a 6-2 CCC (15-5 Overall) record, while the Golden Bears went 3-5 in league play (9-8 Overall). In the second quarterfinal, No. 5 seed Endicott visits No. 4 seed Roger Williams with first serve set for 11 a.m. Both Roger Williams and Endicott finished with 5-3 CCC records, but the Hawks were awarded the higher seed by virtue of their victory over the Gulls during the regular season.
The winner of the Gordon-WNE match will visit Nichols in the semifinals, while Eastern Nazarene will host the winner of Roger Williams and Endicott. The semifinal round is scheduled for Wednesday, May 3 and game times will be announced following the conclusion of the quarterfinals.
The two semifinal winners will meet in the CCC Men's Tennis Championship on Saturday, May 6. The CCC Tournament Champion will receive the conference's automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship.
