Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Tennis team persevered over Endicott College Saturday afternoon in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Quarterfinals with a 5-3 win.
The Hawks jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles with wins at #1 and #3.
Grant Rosenberg (Melville, N.Y.) and
Nick Spoor (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) rolled off a 9-7 win over Chris Kirkpatrick and Keaton McCleary, while
Jake Cole (Sterling, Va.) and
Matthew Russo (Branford, Conn.) defeated Jack DeRizzo and Nicholas Eherts 8-6.
In singles play, the Hawks dropped the first set in all six matches, putting RWU in a difficult position. However, RWU would ultimately force a deciding third set in four matches, coming away with wins in all three.
Endicott took the lead with wins at #2 by Charles Book over Cole (6-1, 3-6, 6-4) and #6, with Sean McAndrews beating
Thomas O'Leary (North Easton, Mass.) 6-2, 6-4. White would take down Kirkpatrick 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 at #1, followed by Spoor downing Thomas Brent 2-6, 6-0, 6-3 at #4 to pull RWU one win away. Rosenberg clinched the victory with a 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (3) win against Toler at #3.
Roger Williams (10-7) heads to Eastern Nazarene on Wednesday in the CCC Semifinals, while Endicott ends the year at 11-8.
