Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Men's Tennis team dropped its first Commonwealth Coast Conference match of the year Wednesday afternoon, falling 8-1 to Gordon College.
Matthew Russo (Branford, Conn.) picked up the sole point for the Hawks on the day, downing Peter Godwin at #6 singles by a 6-3, 6-4 score.
Brendan White (Old Lyme, Conn.) nearly pulled off the win for RWU at #2 singles against Nate Lookwhy. He dropped the first set 6-4 before coming back with the 7-6 (5) win. However in the tiebreaker, Lookwhy managed to hold on for the 10-8 win.
Grant Rosenberg (Melville, N.Y.) and
Nick Spoor (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) fell by 6-4, 6-4 scores at #3 and #4 singles to Jonathan Frink and Mike D'Antuono, respectively. Mason Casady downed
Jake Cole (Sterling, Va.) 6-3, 6-4 at #1, while
Alex Bonanno (Westford, Mass.) fell 6-2, 6-3 to Eric Kim at #5.
At Doubles, Casady and Lookwhy picked up an 8-4 win over Roserberg and Spoor, while White and
Matty Feldman (Duxbury, Mass.) fell 8-6 to D'Antuono and Kim at #2. Frink and Peter Godwin took down
Thomas O'Leary (North Easton, Mass.) and
Miles Conlin (Branford, Conn.) 8-5 at #3.
Roger Williams (6-4, 2-1 CCC) heads to Wentworth on Saturday, while Gordon (10-4, 2-1 CCC) also faces Wentworth on Tuesday.
