Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Tennis team earned a crucial Commonwealth Coast Conference victory Sunday afternoon with a 6-3 win over Endicott College.
The Hawks took a 2-1 lead after doubles play.
Jake Cole (Sterling, Va.) and
Matthew Russo (Branford, Conn.) took down Charles Book and Jack DeRizzo 8-5 at #2. Nicholas Eherts and Thomas Brent tied the match at 9-7, downing
Brendan White and
Matty Feldman (Duxbury, Mass.) at #3. However,
Grant Rosenberg (Melville, N.Y.) and
Nick Spoor (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) just edged Chris Kirkpatrick and Justin Toler 9-8 (7-4) at #1 to put the Hawks up entering singles play.
Kirkpatrick swept Cole 6-0, 6-0 at #1 to tie the match at two, followed by Eherts defeating
Alex Bonanno (Westford, Mass.) 6-3, 6-0 at #5 to give Endicott a 3-2 lead.
That would be the only matches the Gulls would take, with RWU winning the final four matches. Spoor earned a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Sean McAndrews at #4 followed by Rosenberg upending Book 6-3, 6-4 at #3. White picked up the clinching point with his 7-6 (8), 7-6 (5) win at #2 against Toler, while Russo wrapped things up with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win at #6.
