Women’s Soccer Picks Up Largest Win Of The Season

Box Score FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – Senior Samantha Woznicki (Bristol, Conn.) tallied a hat trick to lead the Roger Williams University women's soccer team to a 6-0 victory over Framingham State University in non-conference action this afternoon at Maple Street Field.

With the win, the Hawks improve to 4-5-2, while the Rams slip to 2-6 on the season.

The Rams had a chance to get on the board in the opening minutes of the game as junior Kayla Almstrom (Auburn, Mass.) fired a shot off the post. Teammate Cassidy Drosopoulos (Marshfield, Mass.) corralled the rebound and had a shot on the open net, but her bid sailed high.

Roger Williams got on the board at the 21 minute mark as Kasey Provost (Peabody, Mass.) scored off a feed from Morgan Snow (Rowley, Mass.).

The Hawks extended their lead in the 30th minute when Woznicki sent a pass ahead to Snow who carried the ball down the left sideline and placed a shot inside the far post.  Four minutes later, Woznicki found the back of the net off a feed from Gabbi Rozumek (Woodstock, Vt.) giving the Hawks a 3-0 lead.

The Hawks would tack on one more with just six ticks remaining in the half when Woznicki headed in a cross off a corner for her second of the game.

Roger Williams added two more goals in the opening minutes of the second half extending the lead to 6-0.  Woznicki connected on her third of the game when she headed in a corner from Provost in the 47th minute.  In the 51st minute Snow connected on an unassisted tally.

The Rams had a chance to get on the board in the 74th minute as freshman Ana Barretto (Marlborough, Mass.) sent a pass ahead to sophomore Caitlyn Our (Barnstable, Mass.). Our fired a shot, but Roger Williams' keeper came up with the save.

The Hawks outshot the Rams 19-8 in the game with both teams taking four corner kicks in the game.  Senior Natalie O'Donovan (Quincy, Mass.) earned the victory in net for the Hawks making five saves.  Junior Kirsten Hansen (Framingham, Mass.) took the loss allowing four goals with four saves in a half of action, while classmate Jennifer Stevens (Hopkinton, Mass.) made three saves in her half of work.

"We started the game slowly, allowed them a chance to go one up, they hit the post and then put the rebound over the crossbar," said Head Coach Tim Moody. "But after that we took over, never looked back and took complete control of the game by scoring four excellent goals before half time. The fourth was the most important as it was just 6 seconds before the break putting us in a commanding position.

"We never looked like losing the game, we played so well for the complete 90 minutes and you could tell we had goals in us and we could have doubled that score line in fact. It was nice to get all the players available who were fit into the game. We showed we have depth and the new players are showing what they have learned so far from the practice pitch.

"We had taken the things we had worked on the day before and adapted them correctly, everyone was on the same page and we looked very good in the different shapes and systems we applied to the task we were given.  We took another step forward and the feeling around the team has been very positive.

"Over all we did more than enough to win the competition and we did that convincingly tonight, we could not be happier!"

The Rams are back in action Saturday morning when they host Salem State University in a MASCAC contest beginning at 11 a.m., while the Hawks travel to the University of New England on Saturday for a CCC contest at 2:30 p.m.
