Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Basketball team rolled off its fourth straight victory with a 72-71 win over Eastern Nazarene College Thursday evening.
The Hawks scored first in the game, taking a 3-0 lead on a free throw and tip-in. RWU maintained the advantage for the early part of the opening period until Jacob Waldroop (Newland, S.C.) tied it at 11 with a layup.
Nick Marini (Loudonville, N.Y.) came down the other end and buried a three to put RWU back up.
Josh Rice (Hanson, Mass.) dropped in a basket with 6:05 left in the opening half for the Lions' first lead of the game (25-23). RWU came back with six straight to regain the lead. The Hawks would eventually go into halftime with a 38-35 advantage.
A 7-0 run to begin the second half gave Roger Williams a ten-point cushion, the largest of the game. The Lions would continue to make their way back into the game, eventually tying the contest at 64 with 3:35 left on a trey by Rice.
RWU would go up by four with a minute left to play but could not ice the game, as the team missed four consecutive free throws. However, the Lions could not capitalize as they missed a game-tying jumper with 17 seconds left and the go-ahead three pointer with five seconds left.
After
Jaylen Jennings (Norwalk, Conn.) brought the lead back to four with a pair of free throws with a second left, David Lopez (Miami, Fla.) hit a three-pointer at the buzzer but to no avail.
Marini and Conor O'Brien each scored 18 points with O'Brien adding nine rebounds. Jennings added nine boards well to go with his 12 points, while Austin Coene (Tyngsborough, Mass.) finished with 14 points and four rebounds.
Waldroop dropped 18 points and seven rebounds for the Lions. Trey'Von Davis (Moore, S.C.) had eight points and ten rebounds before fouling out. Lopez added 12 points and a pair of blocks.
Roger Williams (11-2, 5-1 CCC) will travel to Endicott College on Saturday, while Eastern Nazarene (5-8, 1-5 CCC) hosts Curry also on Saturday.
