NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina University women's volleyball team swept Roger Williams University 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-23) in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Tuesday evening.
Â
The Seahawks earn their third win in the series and their first sweep versus the Hawks who still own a 24-3 record all-time.
Â
Salve Regina freshman Madison Lee (Dover, Fla.) had a match-high 15 kills along with two aces, four digs, and a block. Salve Regina senior Cassidy Trabilcy (Phoenix, Ariz.) struck for 13 kills, nine digs, an ace, and a block. Salve Regina senior Erin Proctor (Canton, Mass.) had a match-high 36 assists, seven digs, two aces, and a kill.
Â
Defensively the Seahawks held a 59-43 advantage in digs.
Â
A 5-0 run at the end of the first and a 6-0 run to start the second helped the Seahawks take a 1-0 lead and secure a lead in the second that they would not yield to go up 2-0 in the match. The Seahawks led the entire way in the third set and had match-point four times, but the Hawks refused to go easily. Kills from
Molly Quilty (Duxbury, Mass.), Lara Lolacono (Lynbrook, N.Y.), and
Katie Nugent (Lynnfield, Mass.) kept the Hawks alive and drew them within one point, 24-23. Trabilcy would end the suspense on the next point though, knocking in her 13th kill of the night to secure the first sweep for the Seahawks in program history over Roger Williams.
Â
Megan Parham (Tulsa, Okla.) had a match-high 14 digs for Salve Regina.
Â
Katherine Pickard (St. Petersburg, Fla.) led the Hawks with nine kills and added two blocks.
Maddie Neuberger (Remsenburg, N.Y.) had a match-high four blocks for the Hawks along with six kills.
Julia Fields (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) dished out 20 assists for the visitors.
