Men’s Basketball Halted By Gordon

Box Score WENHAM, Mass. — The Roger Williams University Men's Basketball team suffered an 87-71 setback to Gordon College in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at the Bennett Center.
 
Eric Demers scored 27 points to break the 1,000 career point plateau and lead Gordon to victory.
 
The teams traded the lead back and forth for the first five minutes of the first half. The Fighting Scots (16-8, 12-5 CCC) gained a nine-point advantage with a 9-0 run. They stretched the lead out to 21 points with a 23-11 run. The Hawks (17-7, 11-6 CCC) were able to cut the lead down to 14 points with a 7-0 run in the last 2:23 of the half to make it a 43-29 game at halftime.
 
Garrisson Duvivier scored 14 points, grabbed three rebounds, and blocked two shots in the first half. Demers scored 13 points, dished out four assists, and pulled in three rebounds.
 
Roger Williams started the second half with a 17-12 run to cut the deficit to nine points with 14:14 left. Gordon built the lead back up to 19 with 3:45 left and then the Hawks went on a 11-2 run to make it a ten-point game with 1:54 remaining. The Fighting Scots sealed the win by not allowing a point the rest of the game.
 
Demers recorded his 19th game with 20 or more points and his 12th in a row. He also led the team with five assists and grabbed five rebounds in the game. Duvivier finished with 25 points, nine rebounds, four blocks, and three steals. Jake Haar scored nine points with four rebounds while Jaren Yang scored seven points, grabbed seven rebounds, and handed out three assists.
 
JJ Pfohl led Roger Williams with 25 points in the game. Austin Coene added 12 points and Nick Marini had 11 points and five rebounds.

Demers is now the 22nd player in school history to score over 1,000 career points.
 
Gordon has now locked up the No. 2 seed for the CCC tournament entering its final regular season game at Salve Regina Feb. 17 at 3 p.m. They won the first game of the season series 81-66 at home.
