Men’s Tennis Holds On Against Western New England

Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Western New England University men's tennis team had its four-match winning streak snapped with a 6-3 loss to Roger Williams University on Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Volvo Outdoor Courts.
 
Western New England's No. 1 doubles duo of sophomore David Kalmer (Slingerlands, N.Y.) and junior Justin Kohut (South Windsor, Conn.) defeated Grant Rosenberg (Melville, N.Y.) and Nick Spoor (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) 8-3, but the Hawks captured the second and third doubles flights to claim a 2-1 lead in the match. Brendan White (Old Lyme, Conn.) and Miles Conlin (Branford, Conn.) won 8-2 against Luke Surawski (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Max Gordon (Middleton, Mass.) at the second flight. Jake Cole (Sterling, Va.) and Thomas O'Leary (North Easton, Conn.) beat Peter Stegemann (Falmouth, Maine) and Matt Russell (Auburn, Mass.) 8-0 at the third flight.
 
Kalmer was also victorious at the top of the Golden Bears' singles lineup, as he registered a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over to improve to 7-1 this season.
 
Western New England's other point came courtesy of freshman Matthew Russell (Auburn, Mass.), who won 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) over Matty Feldman (Duxbury, Mass.) at No. 6.
