Volleyball Goes 2-0 In Invite Opener

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team began the season with two wins at the Roger Williams Invitational, taking down Alfred University and Montclair State University by 3-0 scores.
 
In the first match against Alfred, the Hawks were dominant throughout, hitting .394 on the match while serving up seven aces. In addition, RWU held the Saxons to a negative hitting percentage (-.051). RWU began the first set with a 25-11 victory, followed by a 25-12 win. The Hawks would close out the final set with a convincing 25-6 win.
 
Against Montclair State, the Hawks continued to put together a strong match offensively, coming away with a .347 hitting percentage in the match. Defensively, RWU continued to do work, as the Red Hawks finished the evening hitting -.059. In addition, the Hawks posted seven service aces again while tallying three solo blocks and ten block assists. The squad opened with a 25-13 win over Montclair State, then took the second set 25-15. With the team holding the 2-0 lead, they would roll to the 25-9 win to close out the night.
 
Molly Quilty (Duxbury, Mass.) paced RWU with 22 kills over the two matches while posting a sparkling .618 hitting percentage. Katherine Pickard (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and Lara LoIacono (Lynbrook, N.Y.) each added 13 kills. Nicki Fallisi (Salem, N.H.) and Kate Grabowski (Hebron, Conn.) notched three aces apiece and combined for 37 digs. Julia Fields (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) led RWU with 40 assists.
 
Roger Williams (2-0) will wrap up the RWU Invite tomorrow against Trine University and Augsburg College.
