BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team ended the RWU Invitational going 1-1 on the final day, falling short to Augsburg University 1-3 but bouncing back with a 3-1 win over Trine University.
In the first match against Augsburg, the Hawks fought to stay even with the Auggies. The first set was in favor of Augsburg 15-25, but the second set went RWU's way, going 25-12. However, the Auggies took the final two sets 25-17 and 25-16.
Lara LoIacono (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and
Molly Quilty (Duxbury, Mass.) both finished with eight kills apiece.
Julia Fields (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) had 31 assists while
Kate Grabowski (Hebron, Conn.) had 22 digs.
Against Trine University, the Hawks dominated coming away with the 3-1 match. The team opened with a 25-22 win over Trine and then took the second set 25-16. With the team holding the 2-0 lead, Trine made a comeback, taking the third set 25-19. However, RWU would close the door on the fourth set at 25-23.
Offensively, RWU put in work as
Maddie Neuberger (Remsenburg, N.Y.) had 15 kills,
Katherine Pickard (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and 13 kills, and Fields had 27 assists. In addition,
Nicki Fallisi (Salem, N.H) had 22 digs.
Roger Williams (3-1) will continue to fight on September 4
th against Eastern Connecticut State in Bristol, R.I. at 7:00pm.
