Men’s Tennis Opens Fall At Stonehill Tourney

EASTON, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Men's Tennis team began the Fall portion of the 2018-19 season at the Stonehill College Doubles Invitational this past weekend.

In the A-Doubles bracket, Nick Spoor (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) and Dan Tocco (East Quogue, N.Y.) opened their day with an 8-6 win over Alex Partyka and Laurent Ruttkowski of Eastern Nazarene. Unfortunately, they were unable to advance to the championship round after falling 8-3 to Tom Hackett and Jack Phillips of Coast Guard. However, they would claim 3rd place after edging Russell White and Vincent Huynh of Stonehill by an 8-7 (7-4) margin.

In the B-Doubles bracket, Thomas O'Leary (North Easton, Mass.) and Jared Deibe (Oakland, N.J.) just fell short in their opening match, dropping an 8-7 (7-5) decision to Chris Lansing and Kyle Fager of Coast Guard. They would then take down Jack Cook and Erik Antonacci of Colby-Sawyer by an 8-3 score to advance to the consolation bracket finals. Yet Santiago Camero and Henry Siercke of Eastern Nazarene grabbed the 8-7 (7-3) win over O'Leary and Deibe.

In the C-Doubles bracket, Jake Cole (Sterling, Va.) and Matty Feldman (Duxbury, Mass.) were downed 8-3 by Joey Conrod and Juan Riano Rojas of Stonehill in the first match. They too would make it to the consolation finals after besting Mike White and Matt Williamson of Colby-Sawyer 8-2. However, they could not earn the bracket win, dropping the 8-1 match to Johnny Cissel and Walter Komishane of Connecticut College.

The D-Doubles bracket saw some split pairings, including Arlex Correa (Lynnfield, Mass.) pairing up with Jake Lawrence of Assumption. Unfortunately, they would be downed 8-2 and 8-2 in their two matches. Miles Conlin (Branford, Conn.) and Tyler Cain (Montpelier, Vt.) began with an 8-5 win over Jonathan Gordon (Stonehill) and Will Madden (Colby-Sawyer). After falling 8-4 in the semis, they would take fourth place after dropping the third-place match 8-2 to Aaron Diamond and Aleksander Lazowski of Stonehill.
