BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team played against Wesleyan University at Johnson and Wales University on Friday night. The Hawks fell short to Wesleyan, 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-11).
For the Hawks, junior
Lara LoIacono (Lynbrook, N.Y.) paced the team with nine kills against the Cardinals, while teammate
Julia Fields (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y) made 18 assists and freshman
Kate Grabowski (Hebron, Conn.) had 16 digs.
Wesleyan was led by junior outside hitter Stasie Litinsky (Evanston, Ill.), who produced 11 kills while sophomore setter Grace Rose (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) compiled 17 assists. Defensively, Mia Jago (Belmont, Calif.) had 5 blocks and Phia Bellizzi (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) totaled 15 digs.
The Cardinals got off to a strong start in the opening set leading 5-1, but the Hawks fought hard to stay only within two points for most of the set. It was only until later in the set that Wesleyan started to pull away with the win.
The Hawks took the lead multiple times in the second set battling the Cardinals but Fields hit the last kill for the second win that night.
The last set consisted of an early four kill streak by the Cardinals that kept the team motivated to complete the sweep.
Next up for the Hawks (7-5) is Tufts University in Providence, R.I. at 3 p.m. and for Wesleyan (6-1) is Scranton University at 1 p.m. at the host school, Johnson and Wales.
