SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team collected a split at the Skidmore Classic Saturday afternoon. The Hawks picked up a 3-1 win over SUNY Oneonta before falling 0-3 to Skidmore.
In the first match, SUNY Oneonta took the first set 25-23 for an opening 1-0 lead. The Hawks came back with a 25-22 victory to tie the match at one apiece. RWU cruised to a 25-18 victory in the second set to take a 2-1 lead. In the fourth set, the Hawks claimed the victory after taking down SUNY Oneonta with a 25-19 win.
Molly Quilty (Duxbury, Mass.) led the Hawks with 16 kills and a match-high nine blocks (7 solo, 2 assist) in addition to making the all-tournament team.
Kate Grabowski (Hebron, Conn.) added 18 digs, while
Julia Fields (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) had 43 assists.
Grace Kenningham (Houston, Texas) had five aces and nine digs.
The second match saw RWU fall behind 0-1 to Skidmore after dropping the first set 22-25. RWU was up 15-11 in the second set but Skidmore managed to come back and take the set 25-23. In the third set, RWU hung with Skidmore for most of the set, tying things at 15. However, Skidmore took the set 25-20 to claim the match.
Quilty added another ten kills in the match and six blocks (4 solo, 2 assist). Fields had 27 assists and seven digs, while Grabowski had 14 digs.
Roger Williams (9-8) will heads to Nichols on Wednesday next.
