Volleyball Held Off By #17 MIT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team suffered a 0-3 loss to #17 MIT Friday evening in the first day of the MIT Invitational.
 
The Hawks found it difficult to generate offense against the Engineers, as RWU hit only .175 on the night. In addition, RWU only managed 24 digs against MIT. The Engineers put together a .333 hitting percentage while tallying ten service aces.
 
The Hawks found themselves in a 7-0 hole to begin the first set as MIT took the first game by a 25-15 score. RWU began set two with a 7-4 lead before MIT eventually tied the set at 13. The Engineers would ultimately close out the set with a 6-1 run to earn a 25-19 win. In the final set, MIT opened with a 10-4 to help push their way to the 25-16 victory.
 
Lara LoIacono (Lynbrook, N.Y.) led RWU with nine kills. Julia Fields (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) handed out 19 assists. Nicki Fallisi (Salem, N.H.) added two kills, two aces, and four digs.
 
Roger Williams (4-2) takes on Babson and Wellesley on day two of the tournament tomorrow.
