Taylor Shay (New Fairfield, Conn.) (165), and Anthony Malifitano (Pearl River, N.Y.) (197) all picked up their first win on the day in their respective weight class. Â
Fushchetto won over a technical fall against Michelangelo Bolorin (Hartford, Conn.) at 1:03 while both Gazaway and Malifitano won by a sudden victory against their opponents.Â
The win took them into the next round putting them up against #23 Coast Guard. Unfortunately, the Hawks fell short 25-12 but it wasn't all bad as teammate Shay scored his 100th win against #7 Nick Remke (Marengo, Ill.) (7-5).Â
Kaiser, Fuschetto, Gazaway, and Shay each won another match all by decisions (6-1, 13-6, 13-0, 7-5).Â
Moving into the consolation bracket and for third place, the Hawks met Springfield College where they lost 17-16 in a close match.Â
This time, Gazaway, Kelly, Shay,
Ryan DeLoach (Bethlehem, Pa.), and Malfitano were victorious against their respective opponents to help gain points for the Hawks.Â
Although it wasn't the result the Hawks wanted, they will continue to use it as motivation going forward. Â Some of the highlights of the day included Gazaway and Shay both making the All-Tournament Team going 3-0 on the day and Tristian Haviland (Trumbull, Conn.),
Andy Lombard (Monroe Township, N.J.), and
Luke Bokina (Mattituck, N.Y.) all won the NEWA Individual Tournament.
The Hawks come back to face LIU Post on January 26th at 4:00 p.m.Â
