How It Happened
RWU jumped out to a 5-1 lead to begin the match. The Hawks led throughout most of the set until the Fighting Scots mounted a comeback and eventually tied the set at 20. Gordon forced set point (24-22) before RWU called a timeout. RWU would rally for four straight points capped off by a
Grace Kenningham (Houston, Texas) kill to give RWU the 26-24 win.
Gordon began set two scoring six of the first eight points. The Hawks came back to tie things at eight and eventually went up by four (18-14). Trailing 21-23, Gordon called a timeout then rallied for three straight points to take it to set point. After an RWU timeout, both sides would trade points until a Hawk service error broke a 26-all tie. Jordan Shaduk would put away the set with a kill to tie the set at one apiece.
In the third set, Gordon pulled away halfway through the set. The Fighting Scots turned a 7-7 tie into a 13-8 lead, keeping RWU at arms length. The Hawks trailed 20-22 and called a timeout to regroup. RWU pulled to within one, but Gordon scored the final three points to collect the 25-21 win.
The final set saw Gordon jump out early and never look back. The Fighting Scots began the game on an 8-2 run and would lead by as many as ten. The Hawks managed to pull within three (14-17) but a 7-0 run put the match out of reach and a Shaduk kill capped off the 25-16 victory for Gordon.
