Volleyball Moves On To CCC Semis

BRISTOL, R.I. – The second-seeded Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team advanced to the CCC Semifinals with a 3-1 victory over #7 Western New England University Tuesday evening.

How It Happened
It was a tight battle between both teams in the opening set, evidenced by 12 ties and four lead changes. Neither team lead by more than three points the entire game. With the score knotted at 23, Toni Fiore logged a kill for the Golden Bears to give them point game, followed by a misplayed ball by RWU to give Western New England the opening set 25-23.
 
The Hawks would find their groove in the second set, opening with a 5-1 run that would be extended to 10-4. After a Western New England timeout, RWU continue to push the pace, going up 20-9 and ultimately taking the set 25-11.
 
Roger Williams kept the pressure on the Golden Bears in the third set, jumping out to a 7-2 lead. Western New England would come back, making it a two-point deficit (10-12) but RWU used a 6-1 run to go up by seven. The Hawks would later score the final six points of the set for a 25-12 win.
 
Western New England kept it close early in the fourth set, with the score tied at three. However, RWU would roll off an 8-1 run to go up by seven and force a Golden Bear timeout. The Hawks would not let up, eventually taking a 20-9 lead. A misplayed ball by Western New England would end the set 25-11 in favor of the Hawks and sending them to the CCC Semis.
