BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Sailing team bounced back this past weekend with a pair of top-three finishes in two of their three regattas on the weekend.
At the Friis Trophy, hosted on the Mount Hope Bay at Roger Williams, the Hawks came away with second place, just missing out on the win with Yale. After racing was postponed on Saturday due to an abundance of wind, RWU and Yale posted identical 7-2 records on Sunday. Roger Williams came away with wins over Boston College, Stanford, Dartmouth, MIT, Tufts, Boston University, Fordham. The seven wins for both Roger Williams and Yale led to a sail-off between the two teams to determine the winner. Unfortunately for RWU, the Bulldogs claimed the sail-off and the regatta win. Competing for Roger Williams on the day were
Conner Harding (Naples, Fla.),
Jennifer Agell (Huntington, N.Y.),
Spencer Cartwright (Nassau, Bahamas),
Hallie Repeta (Portland, Maine),
Daniel Petrovic (Tortola, BVI), and
Emily Gildea (Palos Park, Ill.).
At the Admiral Moore Team Race, hosted by NY Maritime, Roger Williams took third place. Similar to the Friis Trophy, racing was suspended on Saturday due to too much wind. On Sunday, Roger Williams advanced to the Final 4 with a 4-3 record in the opening round robin, coming away with victories over Christopher Newport, NY Maritime, UPenn, and Tulane. In the Final 4, the Hawks were only able to take one win in their three races, besting Fordham. However in the sail-off for third place, Roger Williams took the race over UPenn to claim third.
