PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Roger Williams University sailing team battled through difficult conditions Sunday afternoon at the Sherman Hoyt Trophy, finishing ninth out of 16 teams with 177 total points. The Hawks remained competitive across both divisions throughout the regatta, with Team A recording 95 points and Team B adding 82 points to secure a top-10 finish.
Hawks Battle Through Challenging Conditions
The Hawks faced difficult conditions on the water as the nor'easter impacted Rhode Island throughout the weekend. Strong winds, rain and rough conditions made for a challenging day of sailing, but Roger Williams continued to battle through the elements and remained competitive across both divisions.
Team A recorded 95 points, while Team B added 82 points to give the Hawks 177 points overall and a ninth-place finish out of 16 teams.
Hawks Take On Competitive Field
Roger Williams competed against a strong field that featured Tufts, Boston College, Yale, Harvard, MIT and Connecticut College.
Connecticut College claimed the top spot with 90 total points, while the Hawks continued to battle throughout the fleet to secure their ninth-place finish.
Hawks Represented Across Two Divisions
Roger Williams featured a mix of experienced sailors and first-year competitors across its two divisions.
In A Division, Tristan McDonald (Lake Forest, Ill.), Adam Mendelblatt (St. Petersburg, Fla.), Addy Fisher (Charleston, S.C.), Bo Angus (Richmond, Va.) and Carter Sheehan (Middletown, R.I.) competed for the Hawks. The lineup saw substitutions throughout the regatta as Roger Williams adjusted to the challenging conditions on the water.
In B Division, Jonathon Reece Schwartz (Miami, Fla.) and Jed Lory (Severna Park, Md.) represented Roger Williams. Schwartz, sophomore skipper, and Lory, a senior crew member, helped the Hawks complete their 177-point performance across the two divisions.
