BRUNSWICK, Maine — The Roger Williams University sailing team wrapped up a busy weekend of competition Sunday, Oct. 4, highlighted by a runner-up finish at the Women's Atlantic Coast Championship Round 1B at Bowdoin College and a berth in the ACC Finals.
DAY ONE: Hawks Post Strong Results Across Four Regattas
The Hawks opened the weekend Saturday, Oct. 3, competing across four regattas throughout New England.
At the Danmark Trophy in New London, Conn., the Hawks finished eighth overall with 207 points. Day One featured five races for the A fleet and four races for the B fleet, with racing beginning in a 5-12 knot northeasterly breeze before the wind laid down and faded east throughout the day. Large shifts and inconsistent pressure created difficult racing conditions, with the standings remaining tightly contested heading into the second day.
The Hawks also posted a strong result at the Moody Trophy in Kingston, R.I., earning a second-place finish out of seven teams.
Roger Williams competed at the Smith Trophy in Cambridge, Mass., finishing eighth overall with 148 points.
The Hawks rounded out the day at the BU Invitational in Boston, Mass., earning a third-place finish with 149 points.
DAY TWO: Hawks Secure Runner-Up Finish at ACC Round 1B
The Hawks carried their momentum into Sunday's Women's Atlantic Coast Championship Round 1B at Bowdoin College, finishing second overall and securing their spot in the ACC Finals.
The two-day Women's ACC Round 1B featured 420s across two divisions on Harpswell Sound. Saturday began with a northeasterly breeze that created difficult shifts and tricky sailing conditions before turning easterly and becoming more consistent. Sunday remained northeast, providing another challenging day on the water. Both days featured a full slate of racing, with one redress awarded in Race 2B on Saturday.
Senior Lucy Meagher (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and junior Jancy Grayson (Falmouth, Mass.) represented Roger Williams in the A Division.
Senior Tavia Smith (Wilmington, N.C.) and sophomore Maddy Martin (Indianapolis, Ind.) competed in the B Division, where the Hawks finished second.
