BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse Team was defeated by Bridgewater State University this Tuesday evening with a final score of 14-7.
The Bears got off to a fast start with a goal from Elizabeth Ettridge (Marshfield, Mass.) taking an assist from Hayley White (Dracut, Mass.) just over two minutes into the game. BSU kept the ball for the next five minutes as they found the back of the net again with a pass from Emily Hiller (Marion, Mass.) to Ettridge.
At the 22:24 mark,
Lydia Nelson (Center Moriches, N.Y.) saved a shot from Hiller, later followed by
Devon Sarazin (Falmouth, Maine) scoring the Hawks' first goal to bring the score to 1-2. Six minutes later, Victoria McDonough (Marshfield, Mass.) took a free position shot and found the back of the net. With just under 12 minutes left in the first half, McDonough fired another one to put the Bears' lead at 4-1.
Less than a minute later, RWU cut the deficit to two with a goal from Sarazin taking an assist from
Ashley Warren (Wilmington, Mass.). The Bears later scored another goal by Mackenzie Manning (Hingham, Mass.) in a player-up opportunity, taking an assist from Jacqueline DeLorey (Westwood, Mass.) to put the score at 5-2.
BSU kept their fire with goals from Hayley White (Dracut, Mass.) and Hiller taking assists from Lisa Moynihan (Norwood, Mass.) and McDonough.
Emily Stoeppel (Brookfield, Conn.) pushed back for the Hawks with a goal at the 43-second mark after taking a pass from Sarazin with the score at 7-4 going into the second half.
The second period started with shots from both teams until McDonough passed the ball to Manning at the 24:10 mark to give the Bears another goal. Less than a minute later,
Delana Erickson (Concord, N.H.) had a free position shot for RWU to put the score at 5-8.
The teams went back and forth with another goal from Hiller followed a little over two minutes later with a goal from Erickson after taking a pass from
Shayne Rivard (Easton, Conn.) for the Hawks. BSU would not stop finding the back of the net with a third goal from Ettridge at the 9:55 mark taking an assist from Katherine Tracy (Marion, Mass.) and the score at 10-6.
To put the score at 11-6, McDonough passed the ball to Tracy to increase the Bears' lead. With the Hawks determine to cut the lead, Nelson saved a shot from Tracy.
Maeve Gillis (Duxbury, Mass.) then scored unassisted with just over seven minutes left in the game.
With a free position opportunity, Ettridge scored another goal for the Bears at the 6:37 mark. BSU kept the Hawk defense on their toes for the next three minutes. McDonough got through the defense with under three minutes left in the game and scored unassisted. Ettridge scored the last goal of the game with five seconds left taking an assist from Mcdonough to put the final score at 14-7.
Sarazin led the Hawks with four points on three goals and one assist.
Lauren Flahive (Foxborough, Mass.) had three caused turnovers and four ground balls. Nelson took the loss with seven saves and 14 goals allowed.
McDonough led the Bears with seven points on three goals. Ettridge also scored five goals. Hayley Barner (Westwood, Mass.) took the win with five saves and seven goals allowed.
Roger Williams (10-4) will travel to Endicott College this Saturday. Bridgewater State (8-4) will travel to Massachusetts Maritime Academy tomorrow.
