Women’s Lacrosse Hands Loss To Gordon

BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse Team rolled to a 20-3 win over Gordon College in a Commonwealth Coast Conference game Tuesday afternoon.
 
The Hawks were on fire with three goals in just over three minutes in the first half. At the 28:19 mark, Maeve Gillis (Duxbury, Mass.) took an assist from Emily Stoeppel (Brookfield, Conn.) and 20 seconds later, Delana Erickson (Concord, N.H.) scored on a pass from Devon Sarazin (Falmouth, Maine). About three minutes into the game, Stoeppel found the back of the net unassisted to put RWU up three.
 
With another goal from Stoeppel at the 25:09 mark, she passed it to Erickson about three minutes later to put the score at 5-0. This was then followed with an unassisted goal by Ashley Warren (Wilmington, Mass.) and a pass to Sarazin to put RWU up seven. The Hawks did not stop here with an unassisted goal in a free position shot from Gillis and another unassisted goal from Warren.
 
The Scots reached the back of the net for the first time at the 15:44 mark after a pass from Emma Hryzan (Lakeville, Mass.) to Olivia McCarrick (Glen Burnie, Md.). About two minutes later, Erickson and Sarazin both scored a goal for RWU in a player-up play to bring the score to 11-1. With under 10 minutes left in the half, Warren, Stoeppel, and Gillis all scored their third goal of the game. The teams went into the second half with the score at 14-1 in RWU's favor.
 
Just over three minutes into the second half, the Hawks earned another goal to add to their lead by Stoeppel taking an assist from Warren. Two minutes later, McCarrick passed the ball to Katelyn Dyer (Plainfield, N.J.) to give Gordon their second goal. At the 21:13 mark, Warren reached the back of the net after taking a pass from Lauren Flahive (Foxborough, Mass.) to put the score at 16-2.
 
RWU kept up the heat with two more goals about five minutes later by Isabella Blessington (Harpswell, Maine) taking an assist from Stoeppel and Flahive with an assist from Nikki Norton (Braintree, Mass.).  Daniella Anastasia (Walpole, Mass.) then took a pass from Blessington to bring RWU up by 17 goals. Just over three minutes later, Norton scored an unassisted goal to bring the score to 20-2.
 
The Scots scored the last tally of the game with another goal from McCarrick. The game ended with the Hawks taking home a large win with a final score of 20-3.
 
Warren and Stoeppel both led the Hawks with seven points on four goals and three assists. Madi Drain (Waterboro, Maine) led the RWU defense with six ground balls and three caused turnovers. Lydia Nelson (Center Moriches, N.Y.) took the win with one save in the first half.

McCarrick led the Scots with three points on two goals and an assist. She also had three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Rebecca Resnick (Monroe, Conn.) took the loss with six goals allowed.
 
On Saturday, Roger Williams (7-3, 3-0 CCC) will head to the University of New England while Gordon (2-9, 1-3 CCC) travels to Curry.
