BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse team ended the regular season with a dominating 24-0 win over Nichols College in the final Commonwealth Coast Conference of the regular season.
In the process, the Hawks tied a single-game scoring record with 24 goals in the contest. In addition, the 24-goal win is the highest scoring margin in program history.
Ashley Warren (Wilmington, Mass.) and
Delana Erickson (Concord, N.H.) both scored for the Hawks in the first minute of play.
Devon Sarazin (Falmouth, Maine),
Lauren Flahive (Foxborough, Mass.), and
Emily Stoeppel (Brookfield, Conn.) all later scored to give RWU a 5-0 lead five minutes into the game.
A
Maeve Gillis (Duxbury, Mass.) score at the 14:39 mark in the first half would give the Hawks a 10-0 advantage and force running time. RWU would ultimately take a 15-0 halftime lead.
The Hawks kept the route going in the second half, putting up nine scores in the period.
Stephanie Szelest (Bethlehem, N.Y.) scored her first two collegiate goals in the frame while Abby Wollenburg (Farmington, Conn.) tallied her second goal of the year in only her third appearance of the year.
Gillis, Erickson, and
Isabella Blessington (Harpswell, Maine) all scored three goals in the game, with Sarazin,
Danielle Anastasia (Walpole, Mass.), and
Shayne Rivard (Easton, Conn.) each finishing with two goals and an assist. Erickson also added two caused turnovers, two ground balls, and seven draw controls.
Lydia Nelson (Center Moriches, N.Y.) and
Hannah Goodwin (Bradford, Mass.) both played a half in net, with Nelson getting the win.
Kirsten Sullivan (Arlington, Mass.) had the only shot of the game for Nichols. Lizz McKinnon (Quincy, Mass.) added two caused turnovers and three draw controls. Emily Eagan (Hingham, Mass.) took the loss for the Bison, saving six shots in the game.
Roger Williams (11-5, 7-1 CCC) will host Wentworth Saturday in the CCC Quarterfinals. Nichols ends the year at 0-8 in the conference and 3-14 overall.
