BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Wrestling team earned a pair of dual meet victories Saturday afternoon, defeating Trinity College 31-18 and WPI 24-12.
In the first match against Trinity, the Hawks benefitted by four forfeit wins at 125, 133, and 141 and 197.
Taylor Shay (New Fairfield, Conn.) and
Anthony Malfitano (Pearl River, N.Y.) had the other two wins for RWU in the match. Shay defeated Stephen Cerrone 7-4 at 165 while Malfitano earned a 17-3 major decision over Anders Klass at 184.
Against WPI,
Ben Dubois (Rehoboth, Mass.),
Tristan Haviland (Trumbull, Conn.), and
Jacob Cardozo (Southington, Conn.) helped RWU to a 9-3 lead with wins in three of the first four bouts. WPI would take wins at 157 and 165 before
Brett Leonard (New Milford, Conn.) regained the lead for RWU with a 13-5 major decision at 174. Malfitano logged a 17-1 tech fall at 184 for the Hawks for a nine-point lead, while
Addison Boisvert (Scarborough, Maine) capped off the win for the Hawks with a pin at 285.
