Alumni Profile: Alexandra Pastor '13 (Equestrian)

Welcome to the newest RWU Athletics weekly feature, Alumni Profiles. Here we will be featuring a former Roger Williams student-athlete and catching up with them on their career since graduating from RWU.

Our next entry comes from Alexandra Pastor. Alexandra was a four-year member of the Equestrian team and graduated from RWU in 2013 as a Global Communications & Spanish Major. She was a two-time team captain and in her senior year, she finished fourth in the region in the Open Division and helped the team to a runner-up finish at the Region 1 Championship.

What is your current job title and what does that entail?
I am the Engagement & Program Manager at Advancing Workplace Excellence. AWE creates immersive learning experiences to evolve the human side of work and leadership and specialize in Diversity and Inclusion training. At AWE, I help run the back end coordination of our training programs. Also, I am responsible for updating our website, all social media, and marketing, and working with clients.

How did your athletic involvement at RWU help you in the path that you chose following graduation? Being a captain of the RWU Equestrian team helped me cultivate my leadership skills and helped me get my feet wet with project management. As the team captain, I was responsible for ensuring our team had all the correct information for shows, leading workouts, and even some event management—all things I do now in my role at AWE. Apart from the horses!

What is your most fond memory of RWU Athletics?
My most fond memory of RWU Athletics is all of the long hours and time spent with my team at horse shows and the barn! And those were LONG hours, but I have such a strong bond with my old teammates, many of which are still close friends.

What would you say were your greatest athletic and academic accomplishments during your time at RWU?
My greatest accomplishment was when our team placed second overall in our region in 2013! It was comeback szn for us and we more than deserved it.

Why did you choose to attend RWU?
I specifically looked at colleges approximately four hours away from my hometown of Westhampton Beach, New York, and wanted to go somewhere with an equestrian program and fell in love with RWU the first time I visited! It's stuck—I still live on the East Bay!

Were you involved in any extracurricular activities outside of athletics?
Yes, I was president of Sigma Delta Chi, the Spanish Honors Society, and presented my thesis at a national competition.

What piece of advice would you have for current RWU student-athletes?
I know this year is not what you thought it would be, between COVID restrictions and classes being online. Stay focused and stay healthy. Don't worry about time running out. Although life at RWU is a great time, you still have the rest of your life to live. And if you're on the Equestrian team, there will always be horses to ride and show!
