Welcome to the newest RWU Athletics weekly feature, Alumni Profiles. Here we will be featuring a former Roger Williams student-athlete and catching up with them on their career since graduating from RWU.
Â
Our next entry comes from Lucas Puleo. Lucas was a three-year member of the Men's Golf team and graduated from RWU in 2016 as a Marketing Major. He was part of the first golf team to be reinstated as a varsity sport back in 2013. In his senior year, he helped the team qualify for the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship for the first time since being reinstated.
Â
What is your current job title and what does that entail?
I am an Investment Media Manager at Universal McCann. I am responsible for TV and digital investments across the American Express experiences totem consisting of sports, festivals, and Amex Contracts efforts. I lead strategic discussions around key tent-poles for the American Express client like the US Open for golf and tennis and the NBA to ensure key goals are met. I work closely with investment leads to orchestrate our go to market strategy and negotiate the most efficient plans that exceed goals for our clients.
Â
How did your athletic involvement at RWU help you in the path that you chose following graduation? Staying close within the athletic community while in school helped strengthen my knowledge across all sports to allow me to keep up to date and better inform my clients across all sports.
Â
What is your most fond memory of RWU Athletics?
The weekend trips for two-day tournaments with the team. They were great times with lots of laughs.
Â
What would you say were your greatest athletic and academic accomplishments during your time at RWU?
Making a hole-in-one during sophomore year tryouts on our home course at Montaup Country Club. My greatest academic accomplishment was having the opportunity to study abroad in Florence, Italy, learning a new culture and exploring outside of the US.
Â
Why did you choose to attend RWU?
I chose to attend RWU based on the academics, location, study abroad program, and size of the school.
Â
Were you involved in any extracurricular activities outside of athletics?
I worked within the athletic department to help with running all other athletics within the school.
Â
What piece of advice would you have for current RWU student-athletes?
Stay close with your teammates while also branching out and making friends within other athletics. These are friends you will have with you for years after your time at RWU.
