BRISTOL, R.I. – Morgan McCutcheon (Danbury, Conn.) matched her career-high making 11 saves but the offense for the Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team was stifled, and they fell to Commonwealth Coast Conference rival Western New England University on Saturday afternoon.
Ariana Montero (Milford, Conn.) scored for RWU, but the Golden Bears got a pair of goals from Danielle McCarthy (Old Lyme, Conn.) and outshot the Hawks 29-5 in the contest.
With the loss, RWU saw their four-game winning streak snapped and fell to 11-5-0 on the season, 4-2-0 in CCC play. Meanwhile, WNE improves to 9-5-0, 5-1-0 against conference competition.
In goal, McCutcheon did match her career-high with 11 saves in the game but also encountered some tough luck allowing three goals to drop to 9-3-0 on the season. Molly McLaughlin (Guilford, Conn.) started for the Golden Bears and made four saves while allowing just the single goal to improve to 9-5-0 in net.

Hawk Highlights
Roger Williams got on the board first in the 21
st minute.
Kelly Yadoff (Wycoff, N.J.) chipped the ball into the box for RWU, but a Golden Bears defender worked to box out
Bianca Robbins (Johnston, R.I.) from the ball to let the goalie, Molly McLaughlin (Guilford, Conn.) come up and retrieve it. However, Robbins managed to get around the defender just enough to send a pass to the left side of the box to
Ariana Montero (Milford, Conn.). Montero proceeded to take a shot from the top left intersection of six-yard box and with the net vacated she had an easy score for her fifth goal of the season.
It was all Western New England from there however, beginning in the 24
th minute when they got even. Summer Hathaway (Colchester, Vt.) took a long shot from roughly 35 yards away that clanged off the crossbar. The ricochet popped high in the air, stayed in play, and found the head of Danielle McCarthy (Old Lyme, Conn.) who headed it into the right side of the net for her third goal on the year.
In what was a very defensive first half, WNE outshot RWU, 10-2, took more shots on goal, 4-2, and received the only four corner kicks of the half.
The Golden Bears seized control in the second half, and they jumped in front in the 59
th minute. Allison Bruehwiler (Old Saybrook, Conn.) got the ball in deep on the left side against the Hawks defense and took a shot from a difficult angle that was saved by
Morgan McCutcheon (Danbury, Conn.). The ball remained loose, however, bounding in front of the net, and McCarthy pounced and took a tough shot into the left corner of the net for the go-ahead tally and her second goal of the game.
WNE added some insurance when they received one of their 11 corner kicks on the day in the 74
th minute. Emily Chojnicki (Newington, Conn.) sent the ball into the crease where it was headed a couple times before it found some twine off the head of Jordan Pare (Cromwell, Conn.) for her first goal of the season.
Western New England dominated the ball in the second half, outshooting the Hawks, 19-3, including 10-3 in shots on frame, and had more corner kicks, 7-1.
Overall, the Golden Bears took more shots, 29-5, shots on goal, 14-5, and corner kicks, 11-1.
Coach's Corner
Although we scored first and took the lead, we did not do much else that was to our standard. We have played much better than what we showed today and it was disappointing to play that way in a big game that can have a big impact in our season.
We have a few injuries and the weather was not great, but we still could have performed better. We have standards and we did not live up to what we want to achieve this fall. Perhaps we were unlucky for the first goal that bounced off the crossbar, but we still need to be aware of it. This game got away from us and we will need to do much better in the future.
Every match you play is important, the one you are playing in, is the most important. You need to compete for 90 minutes even if technically you are not at your best. That is what the game deserves, your team deserves, and your program deserves. You get your highs and lows and today was a low. We needed to show a better desire and mentality to bounce back and bounce back immediately.
The silver lining is we do not expect to play like this again this year and that means we can still beat any team, anywhere, when we put it all together. We have everything we need to be successful if we choose to take that path to the promised land.
