BRISTOL, R.I. – For the fourth consecutive week to start the season, the Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team remained ranked in the United Soccer Coaches (USC) regional poll slotting in at number eight it was announced on Tuesday. Following a 1-1 week, the Hawks keep a spot in the rankings but fell four spots from a week ago.
"I think that it is fair assessment of where we are right now," said Head Coach
Tim Moody. "We are not the best team in the region, but we are not near the bottom either. Our results and performances tell us that. It is for all to see, however we have the potential to keep moving forward and then go back up again."
RWU split their two matchups last week to move to 7-4-0 on the season. They took care of Bridgewater State, 2-0, before hitting the road and suffering a setback to number-six regionally ranked Endicott on Saturday.
"We played against a good team in Bridgewater State, played well and won," Moody said. "We did not do the same thing against Endicott and lost; this is what happens in college. We are a work in progress, and we are only as good as your last game. On a good day, we can be handful for any team in our region and or New England."
Roger Williams has a big week ahead of them. They will duel UMass-Dartmouth on Thursday evening before hosting conference-rival University of New England on Saturday. UNE is the only other CCC team that has held a spot in the regional rankings in every week thus far this season and currently sits at number three.
"Do we want to be higher in the rankings? Yes," Moody added. "Did we want to have won more games? Yes. Could we have played better and won more games? Yes. We have good players, we have a good team and we have always had a strong program. If we had won both games, we move up to third perhaps, but we lost one game, so move down to eighth. That seems fair to me."
On the season, the Hawks rank second in the CCC in goals per game netting an even 3.00 per contest, while defensively they rank in the middle of the pack, ranking sixth by surrendering 1.27 goals per game.
"You play the game on the pitch and the table at the end of the season does not lie," Moody said. "We are dangerous and should not be underestimated. The best thing is we haven't peaked yet and there is more to come."
