How It Happened
Roger Williams and Brandeis were locked in a tight matchup over the first three quarters. RWU held a slim 13-10 lead after the first period and 28-26 going into halftime. The Hawks then entered the fourth quarter up by only one (44-43). Over the course of the game, Brandeis and Roger Williams combined for ten ties and six lead changes, including three ties and three lead changes in the fourth.
Brandeis regained the lead on the opening possession with Camila Casanueva (Santa Barbara, Calif.) knocking down a 3-pointer to give Brandeis a 46-44 lead.
Katie Galligan (Pembroke, Mass.) came back with back-to-back buckets for the Hawks before a three-point play by Kerry Tanke (Manalapan, N.J.) put the Judges back on top, 49-48.
With Roger Williams holding a slim 52-51 lead with just over five minutes remaining,
Sam Mancinelli (Peabody, Mass.) took over for RWU, scoring the Hawks' next seven points to help put Roger Williams up 59-53 with 2:53 remaining. RWU would hold Brandeis to only two points over the following two minutes to extend the lead to 11 with under a minute to play. That cushion would allow the Hawks to hold on for the lead.
