Field Hockey Collecting Donations For Women's Resource Center

In conjunction with Women's History Month, the Roger Williams Field Hockey team has partnered with the Women's Resource Center in Warren, R.I. to collect items to be donated to the center.

The Women's Resource Center's mission is to protect, shelter, and empower people impacted by domestic and sexual violence. The RWU Field Hockey team and RWU Athletic Department would like the campus community to please help us provide resources for these women during Women's History Month by donating one or more of the following items:
  • Baby wipes
  • Diapers/Pull-ups
  • Paper products (i.e. toilet paper, paper towels, tissues, paper plates, etc.)
  • Toiletries (i.e. full-size shampoo/conditioner, deodorant, feminine products, toothbrushes, toothpaste, laundry detergent)
  • Non-perishable food
Donations are being accepted in the labeled box outside of the COVID-19 testing center in the upper gym of the Campus Recreation Center from Monday, March 1st through Monday, March 8th.

"Women's History Month is an opportunity to celebrate and highlight women who have made a difference in our lives," said Field Hockey Head Coach Kelly Blackhurst. "These difference makers lead to greater opportunity and possibilities for future women and generations to come.

"The Women's Resource Center in Warren, RI, has a mission to protect, shelter, and empower women impacted by domestic and sexual violence. We support this mission by donating specific items such as toiletries, non-perishable food, diapers, and paper products.

"As a field hockey team, our Hawk Strong core values guide us and our actions with the hope of empowering others.

"A few of our core values include kindness, selflessness, respect, and now.
  • Kindness: We are a non-judgmental, inclusive team that don't say negative things about anyone and embraces everyone, with no elitist separation based on academic class, social class, race, religion, preferences, etc.
  • Selflessness: We play for each other; we encourage everyone around us to be a better player, and we continue to empower each other to be our daily best.
  • Respect: We treat everyone with respect.
  • Now: Now, we do it now. Now is the time for us to set the standard and forge our own path.
"Now is the time we help uplift others around us. As Malala Yousafzai said, 'I raise my voice—not so that I can shout, but so that those without voices can be heard.'  We can be the change with inclusivity and non-judgmental actions paired with selflessness and respect.

"When we come together, we are stronger. Empowered women empower women."
