How It Happened
Roger Williams began the match with three straight points, assisted by a pair of block assists from
Jasmine Babbitt (Charlestown, R.I.). Trailing 1-5, Coast Guard would eventually come back, using three consecutive aces to take a 11-9 lead. The Bears built their lead to eight (18-11) to put RWU in a difficult hole to climb out of. RWU would eventually fall 15-25 in the opening set.
Coast Guard started off the second set with seven straight points including four consecutive aces. The Bears kept the pressure on Roger Williams, taking a 13-1 lead. Trailing by ten with Coast Guard holding point game, the Hawks rolled off four points before falling 16-25.
Another early run for the Bears in the third set helped push them to a 6-2 run to start things off. Similar to the first two set, the Hawks' early deficit proved too much for them to overcome, with Coast Guard building their lead to eight (16-8). The Bears clinched the match with a 25-17 win in the deciding third set.
