BRISTOL, R.I. – Despite facing some still competition at the top, the rest of the lineup proved to be the difference as the Roger Williams University Men's Tennis team took care of Regis College, 7-2, at the RWU Tennis Courts on Monday evening. The Pride grabbed hard-fought victories in the #1 flights of both singles and doubles play, but the Hawks won every other point to take the match.
 
Hawk Highlights
Roger Williams opened the match by quickly dispatching of Regis in #3 doubles as Tyler Cain (Montpelier, Vt.) and Arlex Correa (Lynnfield, Mass.) rolled past Lenny Tam (Waltham, Mass.) and Shane Phillip (Brockton, Mass.), 8-1. Doubles #2 was closer, but Mitchell Weiner (Plano, Texas) and Owen Pelissier (Hingham, Mass.) eventually fell to Matt Glassman (West Hartford, Conn.) and Ryan Schuck (Glastonbury, Conn.), 8-6. However, the real battle was going on in the court next to them. In a duel that lasted just under two hours, Regis' combination of Andrew Bienvenu (Baton Rouge, La.) and Sebastian Torres (San Juan, Puerto Rico) got the Pride on board by outlasting Dan Tocco (East Quogue, N.Y.) and Jon Trevethan (Berlin, Conn.), 8-5.
 
The Hawks pulled away quickly in singles play however as Glassman dealt with Weiner, 6-1, 6-0, in singles #3, Schuck defeated Pelissier, 6-0, 6-0, in singles #4, and Cain beat Phillip, 6-0, 6-0 in singles #6. RWU went with fresh legs in singles #5 and it paid off as Alex Smith (Bedford, N.H.) got his first career win by handling Tam, 6-1, 6-1. Meanwhile, on the upper courts Tocco took care of Torres in singles #2, 6-1, 6-3. The best match of the day came in singles #1 where Trevethan and Bienvenu were going at it for nearly and hour and 45 minutes but in the end, it was Bienvenu who earned the win, 6-7, 6-3, 10-7.
