Women’s Soccer Ranked Fourth In Latest USC Regional Poll

BRISTOL, R.I. – In the most recent United Soccer Coaches Regional Poll, the Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team was ranked fourth in Region II. The Hawks did fall one spot from a week ago but remain firmly in the top half of the rankings.

At the time of the poll, the team sat with a record of 6-3-0 (2-0-0 CCC) on the season and were coming off a 1-1-0 week. The team fell to number-seven regionally ranked Worcester Polytechnic Institute before rebounding with a dominant victory over Curry College.

"Being ranked is always nice," Head Coach Tim Moody said. "It means you are doing a lot of things right with your program.  To get noticed with a small school in Rhode Island is special, it puts us on the map and in the conversation. In years past we have done it and it is gratifying to do it again in 2021. This shows we take our work, team, and program seriously. We play to win and win championships; we do not want to just make up the numbers."

The team continues to be a force on both sides of the ball. Offensively, the Hawks lead the Commonwealth Coast Conference and rank 31st in the nation netting 3.20 goals per game. Meanwhile, defensively the team has six shutouts, tied for the most in the CCC, and have a .556 shutout percentage, a rate that is tied for 69th in the nation.

"September has been a good month for us," Moody said. "We have won good out of conference matches, become Rhode Island Champions and we want to finish September on a high. If we do well in conference, we will continue to be talked about in Region II and that is what we all want. It is not easy to get ranked, and it is harder to stay ranked. This is the challenge, and we accept it."
