Women’s Volleyball: Hawks Split Saturday Tri-Match at Wheaton

NORTON, Mass. – The Roger Williams women's volleyball team lost their opening match against Wheaton 3-1 (21-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-19) on Saturday, before rebounding for a 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-18) victory over Framingham State at the Evelyn Danzing Haas Athletic Center.

In their opening match against the Lyons, the Hawks picked up the first set victory, using a kill by Kaylee Jackson (Naugatuck, Conn.) to take a 20-19 lead.  The Hawks earned another point to go up by two before Wheaton broke up a run.  The Hawks did respond scoring two more, which again was split up by Julia Wingler, before scoring the final two points of the set.

The Hawks were unable to hold back the Wheaton offense, that had 46 kills in the match, while also adding 18 service aces, to take advantage on their way to the 3-1 victory.

The Hawks then rebounded for a three-set sweep of Framingham State in the following match with Jackson posting 10 kills in the match to lead the team, Kristen Dansereau (Killingworth, Conn.) and Jasmine Babbitt (Charlestown, R.I.) each added eight kills.

In the first set against the Rams, the Hawks used a six-point run to take a 20-9 advantage before eventually closing out the set by splitting the next 10 points against Framingham State for the set win.

With both squads knotted in the second set a 20-20, the Hawks used a pair of points to take control of the set at 22-20.  The Rams cut the lead down to one at 23-22, but Roger Williams used a kill by Babbitt and service ace from Jackson to close out the second set.

Roger Williams jumped out to a 20-10 lead in the third set as they closed the match out 25-18.

Roger Williams (5-9, 1-2 CCC) will host Salve Regina in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 6 pm in the Campus Rec Center.  The Hawks will then host Coast Guard for a Friday, Oct. 7 non-conference match.
