BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University women's volleyball team were unable to get by Nichols in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play, falling 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-15), Wednesday evening at the Campus Rec Center.
Brianna Picchietti (Batvia, Ill.) led the Hawks with 11 kills in the match while,
Ava Mattiucci (North Kingstown, R.I.) and
Samantha Johnson (Winchester, Va.) each recorded double digit assists.
Rachel Borzone (Syosset, N.Y.) register 11 digs and Picchietti had four blocks, followed by
Lily Winsten (Rockledge, Fla.) who had three blocks in the match.
In the first set the Hawks trailed 16-10, before an eight point run, gave Roger Williams a two point lead. With the Hawks leading 19-17, Nichols scored back-to-back points to level the score. Mattiucci scored on a dump over the net, before the Bison responded with four straight point to take control of the set.
In the second set, the Hawks trailed by one after a kill by
Kaylee Jackson (Naugatuck, Conn.), but Nichols scored three straight to keep their lead throughout the set.
In the final set, Nichols took a seven point lead, and were able to maintain their lead throughout the set.
Roger Williams (5-14, 1-4 CCC) will host a tri-match on Saturday, Oct. 15, hosting Wellesley and Johnson & Wales for Homecoming and Family Weekend. Saturday will also be the Hawks' Senior Day.
