BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University women's soccer team came out firing on all cylinders Monday evening, defeating Fitchburg State in non-conference play, on Bayside Field, 6-2.
Bianca Robbins (Johnston, R.I.) recorded a hat trick in the match, while the Hawks outshot Fitchburg State 23-15, and 15-6 in shots on net.
Robbins scored early, with a goal at the 3:07 mark of the contest, when she collected her own rebound, that she then buried her shot on the second attempt. The Hawks struck again when
Sofie Morris (Bristol, R.I.) got her head on a corner kick from
Grace Kelly (Milford, N.H.), and put it into the back of the net.
The Roger Williams offense continued to roll scoring their third goal, in less than 20 minutes of play when Robbins put her second goal into the net, after receiving a pass from
Sarah Newman (Sayville, N.Y.). Just 4:26 later, Kelly scored a goal, directly off a corner kick, placing the ball into the back of the net to go up 4-0.
Fitchburg State got onto the scoreboard in the second half when Adrianna Westcott fount Patricia Pallotta 3:52 into the frame.
Leah Yucius (Duxbury, Mass.) then scored just under 10 minutes later, to regain a four-goal lead. Robbins then scored her third 4:27 later, to take a five-goal lead.
The Falcons scored in the 70
th minutes when Charlotte Meixsell scored after a free kick taken by Regina Pallotta, rounding out the scoring in the matchup.
Roger Williams (6-8-3, 2-2-2 CCC) will close out the season with three Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchups starting at Salve Regina on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 3 pm. The Hawks will then visit Western New England on Saturday, Oct. 22 before rounding out their regular season slate against Nichols on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at Bayside Field.
