SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Roger Williams University women's volleyball team fell to Western New England on Saturday in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action, 3-1 (25-16, 25-14, 19-25, 25-12).
The Hawks were led by
Brianna Picchietti (Batavia, Ill.) had 12 kills and
Jasmine Babbitt (Charlestown, R.I.) had nine kills in the match. Babbitt led the Hawks in blocks, being in on two of Roger Williams four in the match.
Ava Mattiucci (North Kingstown, R.I.) had 15 assists, while
Rachel Borzone (Syosset, N.Y.) and
Kaylee Jackson (Naugatuck, Conn.) had 12 digs and 10 digs respectively.
Trailing by one, Western New England scored four straight points, taking the lead in the opening set, as they eventually closed it out taking a 1-0 lead. The Golden Bears outscored the Hawks, 15-8 to start the second set, controlling the set from start to finish.
After trailing 14-6 in the third set, the Hawks battled back to level the set at 18-18. The Golden Bears scored to take a 19-18 lead but the Hawks scored seven straight points, to earn the set win.
Western New England took the fourth set closing out the match.
Roger Williams (5-18, 1-6 CCC) will host the final match of the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 6 pm in the Campus Rec Center. The Hawks will then travel to Wentworth on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 11 am.
