BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University women's volleyball team put together a strong second set to level their Tuesday evening match against Gordon, but were unable to overcome the Fighting Scots falling in four sets in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play, 3-1 (25-14, 15-25, 25-21, 25-19).
The Hawks posted their second best hitting percentage collectively on the season. Roger Williams was led by
Kaylee Jackson (Naugatuck, Conn.) who had 12 kills in the contest,
Brianna Picchietti (Batavia, Ill.) was second on the squad with nine kills, while
Jasmine Babbitt (Charlestown, R.I.) rounded out the top three with eight kills in the match.
Ava Mattiucci (North Kingstown, R.I.) had 18 assists and
Emma Bosco (North Andover, Mass.) added 16 assists. Defensively
Izzy Unsworth (Milford, N.H.) and
Rachel Borzone (Syosset, N.Y.) had eight and seven digs respectively, while
Kristen Dansereau was in on three blocks.
After dropping the first set to the Fighting Scots, the Hawks recovered by outscoring Gordon 11-2 over the final 13 points, taking the second frame. The Fighting Scots and Hawks then battled for the next two sets, before eventually, downing the Hawks.
Roger Williams (5-19, 1-7 CCC) will play the final game of their season on Saturday, Oct. 29, at Wentworth, after officially being eliminated from CCC Tournament contention.
