BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University women's basketball team dominated Brandeis University, 89-58, Monday evening in the Campus Rec Center Gymnasium.
Sophia Coppola (Madison, Conn.) played a strong game having a total of 22 points and 6 rebounds.
Sophie Araneo(Branford, Conn.) also had an outstanding performance with 20 points and 6 rebounds.
Katie Galligan (Pembroke, Mass.) was also a top scorer, having 19 total points with three steals.
The Hawks had an early lead in the first quarter. Galligan stole the ball from the Judges with seven seconds left in the period, she then went on to score with just three seconds remaining, putting the Hawks ahead, 22-16.
The second quarter solidified the lead that Roger Williams had taken. During the quarter a trio three-point shots were scored by
Caroline Elie (Rockland, Mass.), Coppola assisted by
Lizzy Stevenson (Bedford, N.H.), and Coppola assisted by Araneo.
The third quarter saw Galligan, again, steal the ball and rush in from half-court to score. Araneo scored her third 3-point shot with just over a minute left in the period, having scored two in the first quarter. The Hawks finished the quarter with a comfortable lead, 71-38.
The Hawks fought hard and continued to pull ahead in the fourth quarter.
Olivia Gourdine (Barnstable, Mass.) closed out scoring for the Hawks.
Roger Williams (3-2, 0-0 CCC) will next face Nichols in their first Commonwealth Coast Conference game on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 5:30 p.m. The Hawks will then host Curry on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 1 p.m in CCC play.
