DUDLEY, Mass. – The Roger Williams women's basketball team defeated Nichols 85-58 in their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener, Wednesday evening in the Nichols Athletic Center.
Katie Galligan (Pembroke, Mass.) knocked down 10-of-16 shots from the field, tallying 23 points with four rebounds, four assists, as well as three steals and a pair of blocks on the defensive end.
Caroline Elie (Rockland, Mass.) was 8-of-11 on the day, with six boards, and a pair of blocks, compiling 21 points for Roger Williams.
As a team, the Hawks shot 50 percent from the field, with 23 fast break points, and 50 points in the paint. The Hawks also used turnovers, scoring 30 points off those attempts.
Nichols jumped out to a 20-17 lead in the first quarter, before Roger Williams compiled a quarter where they outscored the Bison 26-4, taking a 43-24 lead into the halftime break.

Nikki Rosa (Nahant, Mass.) dished an assist to Elie in the paint, with 6:32 remaining, the Hawks led by 28 points. Nichols was able to cut the lead down to 23, before eventually being outscored 25-11 in the fourth quarter.
Roger Williams (4-2, 1-0 CCC) will host Curry on Saturday, Dec. 3 in a 1 pm matchup in the Campus Rec Center on the campus of Roger Williams. The Hawks will then play three games on the road, beginning with a Tuesday, Dec. 6 visit to Suffolk.
