BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University women's basketball team came out victorious over Curry on Saturday afternoon, 59-32.
Sophie Araneo (Branford, Conn.) was the top scorer for the Hawks, scoring 17 points, five rebounds, and two assists.
Katie Galligan (Pembroke, Mass.) earned 11 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.
Sophia Coppola (Madison, Conn.) also had nine points, four rebounds, and one assist.
Galligan, assisted by
Kendi Barnard (Bedford, N.H.) put the Hawks on the board early in the game. Moments later Galligan scored again, this time assisted by
Nikki Rosa (Nahant, Mass.). The Hawks quickly pulled ahead, ending the first quarter, 17-6.
The momentum continued into the second quarter with Rosa scoring a three-point shot, assisted by
Caroline Elie (Rockland, Mass.). Elie went on to have six rebounds and five turnovers throughout the game. Just before the end of the first half, Araneo, assisted by Rosa, made a three-point shot.
The Hawks didn't let up in the second half. Roger Williams led Curry in rebounds, 37-25, and steals, 8-17.
Olivia Gourdine (Barnstable, Mass.), assisted by
Caroline Aaron (Wrentham, Mass.), wrapped up scoring for Roger Williams with 28 seconds left.
The Roger Williams women's basketball team (5-2, 2-0 CCC) will next face Suffolk on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 5:30 p.m. They will then play against Wheaton on Saturday, Dec. 10.
