Boston, Mass. — The Roger Williams University women's basketball team triumphed over Suffolk Tuesday night, 68-41, pushing the Hawks winning streak to five games.
Caroline Elie (Rockland, Mass.) had 15 points, four assists, and five rebounds.
Sophie Araneo (Branford, Conn.) also scored 15 points for the Hawks and had 10 rebounds for a double-double.
Sophia Coppola (Madison, Conn.) likewise scored in the double-digits, having 10 points in the game.
Katie Galligan (Pembroke, Mass.) started scoring for the Hawks less than a minute into the first quarter. Moments later Elie made a three-point shot followed by a layup, bringing the Hawks ahead before the Rams could score.
The Hawks steadily moved ahead of Suffolk in the second quarter with shots being made by
Kendi Barnard (Bedford, N.H.), Galligan, Elie, and
Nikki Rosa (Nahant, Mass.). Coppola sank a jump shot as the buzzer sounded for the end of the first half, putting the score at 42-19 with the Hawks leading.
Roger Williams didn't score again until well into the third quarter where Elie made a three-point shot with two minutes left in the period. A minute later Galligan scored a layup, which was then followed by another three-pointer, put in the hoop by Araneo.
The Hawks outdid the Ram in free throw percentages, total rebounds, 42-31, and blocks, 4-0.
Roger Williams (6-2, 2-0 CCC) will face Wheaton on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 1 p.m. Following the holidays, they will then go up against the University of New England on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
