BIDDEFORD, Maine – Drew Hart (Cheshire, Conn.), fifth-year forward for the Roger Williams University Men's Basketball team, was named Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Week for the week of February 14
th through February 20
th, as it was announced by the conference offices on Monday. Hart receives the honor for the second time in the past three weeks after he led the Hawks to a 1-1 week and the third seed entering the CCC Tournament.
Hart becomes the first RWU men's basketball player to receive the recognition twice in a season since Austin Coene '19 did so during the 2018-19 campaign. His honor was well earned as he averaged 24.5 points while shooting an even 60% from the field (18-30), and .625 (5-8) from long range. He also accumulated 5.0 rebounds (1.5 offensive), 2.5 assists, 1.5 blocks, and 1.0 steals across the team's two contests.
Hart started the week with a strong showing against Suffolk University last Wednesday, posting 23 points, to go with five boards, two assists, and a block despite the RWU loss. However, his banner performance came on his Senior Day against the Western New England University on Saturday.
He did it all for the Hawks in that contest with 26 points, shooting .600/.750/.833 while securing five caroms, three of the offensive variety, three helpers, two blocks, and two steals. More than that, he was a catalyst with the team's back against the wall. Trailing by 15 in the second half, he rattled off a stretch of scoring ten of the following 13 points overall to spark a furious comeback. His 19 second-half points were crucial as they erased the 15-point deficit to grab their largest comeback win since coming back from down 16 against Gordon College on February 8
th, 2017. In the process, including the results of other games in the conference, the Hawks claimed the third seed in the CCC entering the postseason.
This season Hart is second on the team and ninth in the conference scoring 17.7 points per game shooting at a .535/.358/.794 clip. His field goal percentage ranks tenth in the CCC while his free throw conversion rate is 12
th.
He also leads the RWU squad in rebounding average (5.7), blocks per game (0.7, 11
th CCC), and is second in assists per contest (2.9, 13
th CCC).
