How It Happened
Roger Williams put the game away in the opening quarter.
Lily Cunningham (Melrose, Mass.) notched back-to-back goals in a 21 second stretch for the first two goals over the game six minutes into the contest. After a
Ryleigh Cavanaugh (Manchester, N.H.) goal to make it 3-0, Salve's Nicole Smith (North Attleboro, Mass.) scored to put the Seahawks on the board with 8:56 left in the quarter.
That would be Salve's only goal until 1:22 left in the entire game. Roger Williams closed out the first quarter with five scores over the final 8:16, including a pair by
Nikki Norton (Braintree, Mass.). The Hawks continued the rout in the second period with seven more goals, with three by
Mandy Beck (Old Saybrook, Conn.) and two from
Devon Sarazin (Falmouth, Maine). RWU cruised into halftime with a 15-1 lead.
The Hawks posted five goals in the third quarter and four more in the fourth to put together a season-high 24 goals. Libby Baldwin (Saugerties, N.Y.) ended the Hawk run with a goal for Salve with just under a minute and a half left to play, yet it would be too little too late.
