NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Roger Williams University Women's Track & Field team placed ninth at the Coast Guard Invitational on Saturday. The team was led by
Shirah Strock (Castleton, N.Y.), who finished second in the pole vault, qualifying for the New England Championship in the process.
The Hawks finished the day with a total of 28 points which was good for ninth in the field of 12, beating out CCC rival Salve Regina by four points in the process. The event's top three finishers were the Coast Guard Academy (164), Connecticut College (120), and Rhode Island College (75).
On the track, Roger Williams had one top-five finisher, as
Caitlin Boufford (Londonderry, N.H.) finished third in the Steeplechase. The only other top-ten individual finish for the Hawks runners was
Marina Caspe (Nantucket, Mass.) in the 800-meter event. The 4x400 relay team comprised of
Ali Henderson (Hingham, Mass.),
Talia Moine (New York, N.Y.),
Emma Maywalt (Wall Township, N.J.), and
Meghan Purcell (Colchester, Conn.) claimed tenth in the team event.
In addition to
Shirah Strock's second-place finish, five other field athletes gave the squad six more top-ten finishes in their respective events.
Brooke Dutton (Coventry, Conn.) claimed a pair, placing third in the discus throw, and tenth in the hammer throw. In the javelin throw,
Hannah Duzy (Farmington, Conn.) and
Sami Brody (Clinton, Mass.) finished seventh and ninth respectively. The other two top-ten finishers for the Hawks were
Tasha Strock (Castleton, N.Y.) claiming fifth in the triple jump, and
Lara Kester (Massapequa, N.Y.) ranking ninth in the long jump.
