Track & Field: Championship Aspirations Guide Hawks at Nationals

BRISTOL, R.I. — Three student-athletes from Roger Williams University will represent the Hawks at the 2026 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, as Roger Williams prepares for three days of national competition at the Veteran's Memorial Field Sports Complex in La Crosse, Wis.

Senior Nathan Tassey enters the NCAA Championships as one of Division III's premier distance runners after qualifying in both the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters. Tassey currently ranks 10th nationally in the 10,000 meters with a season-best of 29:34.42 and 11th in the 5,000 meters at 14:04.40.

Tassey also brings extensive championship experience into the weekend after competing at each of the last two NCAA Outdoor Championships. In 2024, Tassey earned First Team All-America honors with a fourth-place finish in the 10,000 meters. He returned to the national meet in 2025 and crossed the finish line first, but was disqualified due to a technical infraction in the 10,000 meters.

Senior Justin Dickson qualified for the NCAA Championships in the decathlon after capturing the Division III New England Championship with 6,606 points. Ranked 16th nationally entering the field, Dickson produced event victories in the 400 meters (51.54), shot put (12.20m), discus (37.61m), javelin (49.86m), and 1,500 meters (4:23.62) during the regional championship performance. He also added a runner-up finish in the 100 meters (11.36) while placing third in the pole vault at 3.90 meters. This is his frist selection ot the field.

Dickson will compete across 10 events over two days at the NCAA Championships, opening Thursday morning with the 100 meters before continuing through the long jump, shot put, high jump, and 400 meters. Competition resumes Friday with the 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, and 1,500 meters.

Sophomore Angela West returns to the national stage in the women's javelin after qualifying with a season-best throw of 41.75 meters (137'0"). West previously earned Second Team All-America honors at the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Championships and enters this year's meet ranked 20th nationally. After setting a school record during her first collegiate season.

Tassey will compete Thursday night in the men's 10,000-meter final, scheduled for 8:15 p.m., before returning Saturday afternoon for the men's 5,000-meter final at 4:25 p.m. West is scheduled to compete Saturday in the women's javelin beginning at 2:00 p.m.
