How It Happened
Coming off winning Hawk of the Week for her nine-assist performance against
Wentworth, Nikki Norton (Braintree, Mass.) got things going early, scoring on the first shot of the game off an assist from Mandy Beck (Old Saybrook, Conn.). After a goal from Devon Sarazin (Falmouth, Maine), Beck put the home squad up three on the first free position attempt. Minutes later Sarazin scored her second goal, the teams fourth, on another free position attempt of her own. With 8:13 left in the first quarter, Roger Williams received their fifth goal, as Ryleigh Cavanaugh (Manchester, N.H.) netted her 29th of the season off a Norton assist. Nichols finally got on the board with 6:51 left in the quarter after Elizabeth Luster (Gloucester, Mass.) snuck one past Hannah Goodwin (Bradford, Mass.). After scoring her 30th of the season, Cavanaugh received a yellow card, putting Nichols on the man-advantage. Even while short one player, the Hawks stayed on the attack as Beck dished one out to Campbell Haller (Nashua, N.H.) who flipped a no-looker past Sabrina Dembro (Saugus, Mass.). Erin Anthony (Somers, Conn.) was sent to the penalty box after a check to the head which, for 30 seconds, left both teams short handed. With 34 seconds left on the Hawks man advantage, Beck got an assist from Lily Cunningham (Melrose, Mass.) to put RWU up seven. Haller notched her 14th goal of the season with 2:23 left in the quarter on the home team's third free position attempt of the game. In the final minute of the opening frame, Karli Chapin (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and Cunningham each scored to put the Hawks up 11-1.
After being held scoreless through the first three minutes of the quarter, Beck assisted Chapin on her 19th goal of the season. Two minutes later, Chapin assisted Sarazin to get the Hawks a 12-goal lead. After over six minutes of scoreless action, Emma Terino (East Meadow, N.Y.) broke the stalemate with a free position goal, notching her fifth of the spring. As the clock expired in the second half, Ella Waryas (Foxboro, Mass.) tallied her fourth goal of the season, giving Roger Williams a 15-1 lead going into the second break.
Just like in the first half, Norton got the scoring going, netting her second of the game just over 1:30 into the second half. Danielle Anastasia (Walpole, Mass.) scored her first of the contest, getting RWU a 16-goal lead. After a four-minute session of back and forth action between the two units, and a failed free position attempt for the home team, Norton was assisted by Sarazin on her 24th of the season. Another minute later, Sarazin notched her 35th of the year. Following the two quick goals, the back and forth play resumed for three more minutes until Cavanaugh scored two goals in a two-minute stretch. Kiley Ruffhead (Reisterstown, Md.) closed out the quarter for the Hawks, getting the team to a 22-1 lead heading into the final session.
45 seconds into the final quarter, Terino ripped her second goal past Dembro. Haller and Chapin netted goals to tie the team's all-time scoring record that was set in the previous contest against Wentworth on Senior Day. With 4:07 left in the game, Waryas would end up being the one to set the new program single-game goals record at 26. The Hawks would take two shot clock violations and continue playing lockdown defense to close out the record-setting performance by way of a 26-1 conference win.
