Men’s Tennis Comes Back, Earns Chance To Defend Title By Outlasting Endicott

BRISTOL, R.I. — Trailing at the end of doubles play, the second-seeded Roger Williams University Men's Tennis team punched their ticket to the Commonwealth Coast Conference Finals with a furious comeback to beat third-seeded Endicott College, 5-3 in the Semifinals round of the CCC Tournament at the RWU Tennis Courts on Tuesday. With the win, the Hawks earn the right to defend their conference title with their 13th trip to the CCC title match all-time.

Hawk Highlights
In the topflight of doubles action, Dan Tocco (East Quogue, N.Y.) and Jon Trevethan (Berlin, Conn.) saw their 16-match winning streak that dated all the way back to the second match in the fall, come to an end as Brennan Nick (Tolland, Conn.) and Daniel Rinkert (Ben Lomond, Calif.) bested the Hawks duo, 8-5. In the third flight, Tyler Cain (Montpelier, Vt.) and Matt Glassman (West Hartford, Conn.) suffered the same fate at the hands of Oliver Pope (Dartmouth, Mass.) and Julian Richtarich (Naples, Fla.) by the same score. RWU did salvage one in the middle match of doubles where Johnny Baldyga (Simsbury, Conn.) and Ryan Schuck (Glastonbury, Conn.) beat Janith Madhok (New Delhi, India) and Collin Dinardo (Westport, Mass.), 8-4.

In need of a comeback in singles, a comeback is just what the Hawks got. The first match to go final saw Madhok beat Glassman, 6-1, 6-3, in the #3 matchup but it was all Hawks from there. On the top court, Trevethan and Tocco each exacted their revenge in singles as Trevethan beat Nick, 6-1, 6-3, and Tocco rolled Rinkert, 6-2, 6-3. In the fourth flight, Schuck held off Richtarich, 6-3, 6-4 to position the hosts just a point from advancing and it would be Arlex Correa (Lynnfield, Mass.) who finished the job in the #6 singles matchup. There, he beat Dinardo, 6-4, 6-2, to complete the comeback and send the Hawks to the conference championship match.
